#4 Visual Soundscapes: Coroico

A Photography + Field Recording Series

This will be a short episode—I just wanted to share some of the photos I took this weekend while testing the TTArtisans 27mm f/2.8 lens, kindly sent to me by TTArtisans to make a review of it. Unlike my last trip to Isla del Sol, where I shot exclusively in black and white, this time I needed to test its colour rendition.

Coroico, perched in the Yungas region of Bolivia just like a ripe papaya ready to be savoured, is a village with a breathtaking blend of natural beauty and history. Known for its subtropical climate and sweeping valley views, the town once played a vital role in the Inca Empire as a center for coca production. During the colonial era, it became an important town along the route used to transport goods and enslaved Africans to the silver mines of Potosí.

Today, Coroico serves as a tranquil escape, particularly for those living in the frigid heights of La Paz. It offers a chance to explore vibrant Afro-Bolivian culture, stunning waterfalls, and the poignant echoes of its layered past.

The first recording was made some minutes before taking this shot.

I hope these photos offer you a small glimpse of Coroico’s charm—its vivid colours, rich history, and serene landscapes. Testing the TTArtisans 27mm lens in such a setting was an absolute pleasure, even on a cloudy day. I’m looking forward to sharing more thoughts and images with you soon.
